standard name look up fails when realm is absent

We need better messaging when standard name look up fails with the look-up table and the fast option.

If the "realm" info is not available in the config, then let's print a helpful message to the user about why the code is not working as expected.

Please find the second error message in the issue below for details. I think it's mostly a try, except kind of a fix, but really useful.
