Putting this discussion here so we can follow up on it more easily:

"Basically I don’t want to be piled on because I don’t wear the ribbon, even though I’m 120% behind the entire mission."

@jm also links to the same "aids ribbon" clip as @saltinejustine did before #1 (comment)

Maybe it could help to add some clarification to the page, simply stating that we want not wearing the ribbon to be a free choice for everyone? Maybe even hinting that "there might be lots of reasons not to wear a ribbon even if you're fully behind the mission"?

Not sure. Wdyt?

I really hope it doesn't get so far that it's a must to wear a ribbon. In my view (this is personal, feel free to disagree) this is a campaign in the short term to show we care and want to see changes.

Let this be a catalyst for discussion, leading to actual changes in people's awareness, and to how community events are run.

To me wearing the ribbon is simply signaling that you're willing to talk about the issues that exist and events that have happened, and that you're willing to learn and become better. But more important than talking the talk is walking the walk. I would much rather see only a small group wearing the ribbons, but consciously thinking about what it means, rather than that it becomes a mindless peer pressure thing where you just put it on because everyone does.

So I'm not too concerned that "not wearing" would become something negative. It's not about the ribbons, we don't have to put too much stress on the symbol, but take the momentum we have here and invest into constructive actions.
